Carbon capture goals ‘remarkably achievable’ says OGA boss
The chief executive of the Oil and Gas Authority (OGA) has claimed the UK’s goals for a crucial new climate change technology are “remarkably achievable”. Andy Samuel was speaking at the Hydrogen Festival in Aberdeen yesterday, arguing 2019 is a “key year” for carbon capture and storage (CCS). CCS is a technology which stores emissions underground, with the UK North Sea holding “massive potential” through its depleted oil and gas fields. A report earlier this year from Commit

Experts say carbon capture, sequestration is not just for power plants anymore
Carbon capture and storage is often associated with harnessing fossil fuel-related power plant emissions. But certain experts and scientists have also suggested carbon capture and storage, or CCS, technology will be key to curbing emissions from the very industrial sectors the world largely will rely on to build a low-carbon infrastructure. "Industrial emissions remain the world's blind spot," David Livingston of the Atlantic Council Global Energy Center said at a Sept. 24 Gl

Coal’s Future Is Murky But The Need For Investment In Carbon Capture Is Clear
The world may recognize that burning coal is adding greenhouse gases. But the fuel is still set to grow as a percentage of electricity generation: For two straight years it will tick up before flattening out for five years. While it may decline slightly after that, its continued presence means carbon capture and storage is needed. That’s according to the International Energy Agency in Paris, which says that coal consumption in the globe’s most economically advanced countries
